Postnatal plans

Updated: Mar 22

We spend a great deal of time during pregnancy thinking about labour, baby clothes, prams and accessories, but do we think enough about life after birth?

A postnatal plan is something we should think about as in depth as we do our birth plan. It may sound overwhelming but with someone to guide you through it (me!) it will help you avoid overwhelm further down the road when you have a new tiny human to look after.

A postnatal planning session will cover a range of aspects of new parenthood and is a great way of making sure you and your partner/support network are on the same page.

A typical postnatal session would include topics such as and not limited to:

  • visitors

  • emotional support

  • feeding

  • the household

Planning ahead can really lighten the mental and physical load, help you set boundaries and expectations in terms of visitors, help you and your partner to feel emotionally supported and working as a team.

It is true that many pregnant parents cannot imagine what life will be like with a newborn and therefore planning for that time can seem tricky. With a trained professional and someone who has been through the newborn period you can work through a plan in order to feel prepped for this new magical time.
