Why take a baby massage class?

Updated: Nov 24

Despite what some people may think, baby massage is not new, and it is far from a fad.

For many cultures across the world it is an integral part of parenthood, with the techniques and theory being passed down from generation to generation.

Baby massage classes are a chance to learn massage strokes for every part of baby's body which bring their own benefits to baby's general wellbeing.

Strokes on the tummy are great for easing trapped wind or constipation, chest massage strokes are good for clearing mucus and opening up the chest.

Certain leg massages are great for circulation, and back massage strokes are a real help for tummy time and strengthening.

Apart from the physical benefits, baby massage can bring a sense of calm for both mum and baby, it can be a special time for you to communicate through loving touch, eye contact and singing, and helps stimulate the release of oxytocin.

Baby massage is a great tool for partners or other caregivers who don't breastfeed the baby, and who want their own special connection time with baby.

Baby massage can be learnt at home or in a group environment from a trained instructor. It is suitable from birth but my classes are generally for babies age six weeks to crawling age.

As a postnatal doula and infant feeding coach I love to create a calm, welcoming space for parents to make new friends, learn something new that will benefit both parent and baby, and feel that the classes are as much about them as they are for the babies. You will always get a hot drink and a tasty treat to enjoy, because lets be honest we all deserve it after leaving the house with a baby on time!
