Creating the Motherhood Community I Wished I’d Had
Updated: Oct 4
I started this business because of my own experience after having my children.
Both of my postnatal experiences could have been very different. But at the time, I didn’t know what I needed, where to find it, or that I was even allowed to want more support.
That experience stayed with me.
So I trained as a postnatal doula, infant feeding coach and baby massage instructor, alongside extensive reading and further training. I wanted to really understand what those early months can feel like for a new parent, not just physically, but emotionally too.
I wanted to help parents feel connected to their baby, listened to, supported and understood. Ultimately, I wanted to help make those early months feel a little calmer, more peaceful and more enjoyable.
But in the back of my mind I couldn't shift this need to create a community.
The support I felt was missing
When I went to baby groups, I often felt like something was missing. Some groups were completely focused on the baby, while others were incredibly warm and nurturing, but there was very little time for the mums themselves to actually talk.
There might be a quick five-minute chat before the next activity, and then the focus would return to the babies.
I always left feeling a bit depleted and lonely if I'm honest.
I just wanted to find people who might be feeling the same as me or who could share a few reassuring kind words with to help us feel a bit like we weren't failing!
I wanted to create a space where you could say, “I’ve had an absolutely shit week,” and nobody would look at you differently. But equally, somewhere you could say, “Things are actually going really well!” and celebrate that too, without feeling like you were showing off.
Just somewhere you could be completely honest about motherhood, exactly as it is.
That was the dream.
Finding the right person to build it with
I met Liz, a fellow doula who had been dreaming about creating exactly the same kind of space as me.
After many discussions and jumped in and got going. We created a mum and baby group for people in and around Colchester; all about the mum.
We threw ourselves into it and created the kind of community we both wished we’d had ourselves.
Motherhood can be beautiful, but it can also be lonely, overwhelming, confusing and exhausting. Sometimes you need practical support. Sometimes you need someone to listen. Sometimes you need reassurance that you’re not the only one finding things difficult.
And sometimes, you simply need to sit with people who understand without needing everything explained.

That is what we want this community to offer.
A welcoming, honest and supportive space where mums can connect with one another, share the highs and lows, and feel less alone in the early years of motherhood.
Not only can they share and take the time to breathe out, lower their shoulders and feel listened to; they get to meet local professionals who can share tips, and insights into a range of postpartum topics such as fitness, nutrition, sleep, the motherhood juggle, and birth reflections.
We honestly couldn’t be more excited to finally bring it to life.
If you’re looking for connection, support and a community where you can be completely yourself, we’d love to welcome you.
